On June 21, 2024 Garret Hermes was a 24 year old teacher, coach, and former college athlete, when a diving accident changed his life forever, leaving him paralyzed from the chest down. As an athlete, Garret has always known the meaning of discipline, resilience, and the daily grind. But this challenge is an entirely new playing field, one that demands not only physical strength, but also unshakable courage of spirit and mental toughness. Through faith, resilience, and the support of family, friends, and community, his story has become the heart behind the Garret Hermes Foundation.​

Garret Reads "Boise's Golden Way" to
Mrs. Hermes' Class
Boise’s Golden Way is a heartwarming children's picture book about integrity, inclusion, and making good choices, even when no one is watching, because when no one sees and no one knows, that's when true character shows.
Through everyday school moments, from cafeteria temptations to playground decisions, a child learns that true character is built in small, unseen choices. Inspired by the steady example of his loyal dog, Boise, a boy begins to pause, reflect, and choose kindness, self-control, and courage.
​Perfect for classroom read-aloud, counseling lessons, and bedtime conversations, Boise’s Golden Way supports social-emotional learning, self-regulation, impulse control, inclusion, empathy, and growth mindset.
Here is a picture of Garret reading his mother's book to his wife Hope's 2nd grade classroom. Mrs. Hermes' students enjoyed the book and loved being able to talk to Garret about his dog Boise.

Annual "Birdies & Bogeys" Golf Tournament
Every year we hold the Birdies and Bogeys Charity Golf Tournament at a local golf course benefitting the Garret Hermes Foundation. If you are interested in the next tournament, you can contact us to get on our mailing list. The 2025 tournament was held at Stone River Golf Club in Royse City and we had many sponsors.
